What happens when two technical driven brands join forces.. this. For the upcoming season NikeLAB forces their strength with the Italian outdoor brand “Stone Island” in this new project titled; ‘YEAR OF THE WINDRUNNER’.
This “Year of the Windrunner” celebration begins with two NikeLab partnerships: Stone Island and sacai. Both have reimagined the Nike Windrunner with an inventive use of new materials, shapes and colors.
Since its establishment in 1982, Italian sportswear brand Stone Island has developed a cult following for its innovative fabric surface treatments. The brand’s famous “compass” logo, which typically appears on garment sleeves, signals quality to discerning consumers from London to Milan and Toronto to New York. In collaboration with NikeLab, Stone Island delivers inimitable swagger to an undisputed athletic apparel classic.
The chevron and hood of the NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner are constructed with water and wind-resistant Mussola Gommata fabric, formed by bonding lightweight cotton muslin to an opaque polyurethane film. Nylon Metal, a proprietary Stone Island fabric with a metallic sheen, is featured on the body of the garment, which is lined with PrimaLoft®.
While the exterior of the jacket is monochromatic, it mimics the traditional Nike Windrunner colorblocking through Stone Island’s garment dyeing process. The result is a subtle distinction between the shades of the Mussola Gommata and Nylon Metal fabrics. The silver PrimaLoft® lining provides a stunning contrast to the monochromatic exterior, while the oversized trims contribute to a rugged look.
